China’s legal framework for visas is constantly changing, in 2017, a new system for working visas has been introduced.
The new system rates foreigners and then divides them into three categories, A, B and C. Anyone scoring over 85 points falls in cat. A, with 60-85 points in cat. B and below 60 in cat. C. In addition, there are some special conditions which automatically qualify you for a category. If you meet any of the special conditions, then you receive the corresponding Visa even if you didn’t score high enough for that category (see this article on china-briefing.com for more details regarding special conditions).
