With the launch of its plant-based meat brand Harvest Gourmet, Nestlé is moving into China’s meat substitute market, a market that has seen a lot of attention from investors lately. The new brand will offer burgers, sausages, nuggets, mince, and dishes that are more aimed at Chinese tastes, such as kung pao chicken, braised meatballs, and pork belly. Whether plant-based meat will be successful in China still remains to be seen though, in a recent survey by CCTV, only 13.7 percent of the consumers showed a willingness to try it out.
