The Swiss business in China survey has been published on the Swiss Centers website.
The 2018 Swiss business in China survey has been written by researchers from Swiss Center China and China Integrated, with support from the China Europe International Business School. It’s the international business survey with the largest number of replies in China, this year; it received responses from almost 1,000 companies.
Some of the essential points of this year’s survey are:
- International companies still find increasing opportunities in the Chinese economy, despite the slowdown.
- Profitability of Swiss companies is stagnating (61 percent are currently “profitable” or “very profitable”). Due to this, Swiss companies aren’t as confident about the long-term future as they are about the short-term. Chinese companies report higher profits and are more confident about the long-term future.
- The biggest challenges are fierce competition and rising labour costs, but foreign and especially Swiss SMEs are less affected by the competition.
