Mrs. Leuthard visited China on the 9th and 10th August 2018. The objective of her visit was to gain insight into technologically innovative companies.
She first traveled to Shenzhen, which is known as the “Chinese Silicon Valley”. In Shenzhen, she visited the technology company Huawei and the internet group Tencent. Her delegation also met with cadres from BYD, a company leading in electromobility. In addition, she visited Hax, a firm supporting startups, and participated at a declaration of intent for “Swiss House – Sunlon“, a Swiss project aiming at realizing the first zero-energy house.
In Hong Kong, she visited an innovation and technology park that focuses on biomedical technologies, electronics, information and communication technologies (ICT), environmental technologies as well as materials and precision technologies. After that, the delegation was able to learn about Hong Kong’s smart city projects and gain insight into a logistic center as well as a 5G innovation lab. Mrs. Leuthard also met with the Innovation and Technology Minister of Hong Kong, Mr. Nicholas W. Yang.
