China has begun with the trial of its new digital currency in several cities, including Shenzhen, Suzhou, Chengdu, the Xiong’an New Area, and some areas that will host part of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Xu Yuan, associate professor at Peking University’s national development research institute, said the following about the e-RMB during a CCTV interview: “Although there is little change from the perspective of user use, from the perspective of central bank supervision, future forms of finance, payment, business and social governance etc, this is the biggest thing ever.”
