From November 5-10, China will hold its first import expo at the National Convention & Exhibition Centre in Shanghai.
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, in addition, there will be a keynote speech by President Xi.
The expo will feature over 3,000 firms from 130 countries and over 150,000 domestic and foreign buyers are expected. More than 100 new products and technologies will be presented over an area of 270,000m2.
Under the exhibitors, there are big industry leaders such as Sony, Samsung, General Motors, VW, Tesla, Facebook, and Google, but also numerous smaller companies.
The CIIE can be divided into four different categories:
Country Pavilion for Trade & Investment: Countries and regions all over the world present their trade and investment achievements by showcasing their products and services.
Enterprise & Business Exhibition: Products at the exhibition can be divided into seven categories:
- Trade in services
- Automobiles
- High-end intelligent equipment
- Consumer electronics & appliances
- Apparel accessories & consumer goods
- Medical equipment & health care
- Food & agricultural products

Regarding the Swiss presence at the expo:
- Swissnex will present its activities and will be joined by the startup Flyability SA, which builds safe drones for inaccessible places.
- Nestlé plans to showcase hundreds of its best-selling products at the Expo.
- Roche will have the largest booth in the medical hall, Roche’s General Manager for Shanghai has also been interviewed by the CIIE.
- The company GF will present new innovative equipment such as a high-precision five-axis machining center and a femtosecond laser light powered by micron processing technology.
