“Out of Paradise” is a movie about a nomadic couple from Mongolia who travel to the country’s capital to get better medical attention for the heavily pregnant wife. Unfortunately, they are not able to cover the medical fees there and must pawn their wedding belongings; this is then the beginning of a rather turbulent story.
It’s the first movie of Mr. Batbayar Chogsom, a native from Mongolia living in Switzerland since 18 years. “Out of Paradise” first didn’t received much attention in Switzerland, it didn’t win any prices and hasn’t been shown in the cinema, but the Swiss filmmaker, Mr. Cyrill Gerber, saw the potential of it and became the movie’s co-producer. Now “Out of Paradise” had its breakthrough at the Shanghai International Film Festival, where it was awarded the best film prize.
