China experienced a rapid urbanization over the past 40 years, because many people choose to migrate to cities in search for better opportunities. Big cities are often associated with economic growth and higher productivity, but an uncontrolled population growth can also create many problems. Considering this factors, the Chinese government now tries to create 19 huge city clusters, each containing several giant hubs and dozens of smaller (but not small) cities nearby. These clusters shall then account for 90 percent of China’s economic activity. Three of of them already clearly take shape: the Pearl River Delta (Hong Kong, Shenzhen), the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai), Jingjinji (Beijing).
