On China’s main state broadcaster CCTV, a detailed discussion about blockchain was held. During the discussion, viewers were educated about the new technology and the tone towards it was mostly positive. The most important statement was that blockchain is 10 times more valuable than the Internet. China’s attitude towards the new technology was often unclear, earlier this year for example, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) announced that it would block access to all domestic and foreign cryptocurrency exchanges and ICO websites.
Some of the discussion’s participants were Don Tapscott (author of “blockchain Revolution”) Zhang Shoucheng (Stanford University physics professor and founder of Danhua capital) and Chen Lei (CEO of Xunlei).
Chen said that blockchain is the second phase of the internet and has a value that is ten times greater.
Zhang stated: “While the real value of the internet is aggregating individual pieces of information into one place, which is exactly what Google and Facebook do, we are now entering an era where information is being decentralized so that individuals can own their individual data. And that’s the real value of blockchain that makes it exciting.”
But there was also some criticism, for example in regards to fraudulent ICOs. All of the speakers were asked to say something about this subject.
