Two surveys by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce showed that demand from Chinese customers for foreign foodstuff, cosmetic and cars remains strong, local distributors are planning to increase orders from overseas suppliers inside the next 12 months.
From the 1,400 consumers surveyed, nearly a third said they were planning to buy more imported merchandises over the next six months, with cosmetics, watches and glasses, baby products, cars and jewellery being the most interesting products.
Cars: More than 30 percent of the people answering the question of whether they are interested in buying foreign cars said they were keen to do so inside the next six months, especially SUVs and new energy vehicles. Thanks to the easing trade tensions with the United States, China will cut import tariffs for cars and car parts from July 1 on.
Cosmetics: 38 percent of the consumers answering the question related to cosmetic purchases said they like to buy cosmetics from foreign brands inside the next six months, 75 percent meant that the domestic skin care market in China does not meet current demand.
In the second survey, more than 1,000 distribution companies were asked, they showed a relatively strong interest in importing foreign products, especially food, cosmetics, watches and passenger cars.
To boost imports, China cut taxes for almost 200 consumer goods by last December.
